Destiny (The Cheezy Ending, Cheezy Title Seg)
by Maruchan
They were finally packed. Maruchan stuffed the last piece
of equipment in its case and set it down near Calculus. All the
tents had been dismantled, and most of the other rangers were
ready to go.
Calculus motioned for the rangers to come closer and
addressed the group. "I doubt that Nexxus and Phoenix will return
any time soon," he said. "Therefore we begin moving north towards
Rhye. The rangers nodded in silent acceptance and began walking.
They had been walking for a several hours, and it was
getting darker in the sunset. Maruchan took off her glasses; the
sunset was lemon yellow. [It's what I get for purple lenses] she
grumbled to herself. The sunset, however, was no different from
the ones she had seen on earth. The terrain was particularly dull,
they had been walking through an area of plains. Gently rolling
plains, for that matter. "I hope the Lyrans here don't have
aerial surveillance or nothing," she muttered to herself. At
least they hadn't had any trouble since they left the beach.
Her companions seemed happy enough. Calculus had been
talking about penguins and egg rolls; Bryn and Red were teasing
each other; and Theseus had been walking along with a sort of
nondescript air.
Calculus came up next to her. "Hello, have you ph33red
the penguin today?"
Maruchan wished the geek would get off his obsession for
penguin ph33ring. "Urm..."
Calculus grinned. "Wanna egg roll?" He offered her a
jumbo-size Chinese-take out box. Maru took one and bit off the
top. It was a lot better than the rations she'd had earlier.
"'s good," she said, eating the rest and wiping her
fingers on her pants.
"Yeah." Calculus stuffed another into his mouth. "So,
how've you been? Haven't seen you around."
"Oh... yeah. Haven't even had a chance to look around HQ
since VRDET was formed."
Calculus nodded. "Lotta spiders in the Communications
Room."
Maru laughed drily. Calculus hated spiders. "Hrm, well,
I'm sure you've..."
"Hey, what's that?" Theseus had stopped and was pointing
to a figure on the horizon.
"Looks like a light-house type thing," Red commented.
"It's a tower, silly," Bryn grinned at him.
Red stuck out his tongue. "Just because you've..."
Calculus frowned. "Stop, you two. We'll need to organize
a search party to go ahead and check this thing out."
Maru nodded. "I'll go," she said.
Brynhild stepped up. "Red and I will go too."
Calculus nodded. "Okay, the three of you go up ahead.
Theseus and I will remain in the immediate area and look for an
appropriate campsite."
"Okay," Brynhild said. "C'mon, let's go." With that, she
grabbed her companions' arms and the three went off...
